The Elephant Retirement Park in Phuket

The Pavilions Phuket is passionate about creating unforgettable experiences, connecting guests to unknown but rewarding encounters encompassed around the resorts four key Pillars, Romance, Arts, Culture and Adventure. Lucky, being located in Phuket - there are not many obstacles in finding these experiences.

The Pavilions Phuket is delighted to offer guests a once in a lifetime adventure experience, involving environmentally friendly 'ecotourism' - a new travel ethic. Ecotourists have a desire to experience nature and the world in a way that doesn't impact the natural environment. It's a responsible way to travel and see exotic threatened species to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

Majority of tourists are unaware of the harsh realities of elephant tourism and how elephants are treated, trained and tamed. The Elephant Retirement Park is the first ethical sanctuary in Phuket where animals are treated with respect and affection. The expedition grants guests a chance to meet these majestic creatures, touching guests’ hearts with affability and ancient wiseness. The Elephant Retirement Park has been established to create a safe-haven for retired elephants. The camp founder, Adulwit Khamya, has created a sustainable habitat for the elephants to live in a natural environment with no profiteering and neglect. The sole focus of the park is to uphold the well-being of retired elephants.

The park offers a variety of tour packages, all filled with a promise of an unforgettable experience. The tours include welcome snacks and drinks, an enlightening talk about the captivity of elephants in the local tourism trade, a walk through the sanctuary and observation of the elephants, an opportunity to feed the animals and pat the social ones, followed by a delicious buffet. For the genuinely adventurous visitors, there is a mud bath and elephant shower. Guests will be taught about the history, present and future of the Park and the life of the elephants. In like manner, visitors will collaborate with the local Mahout people to care for these dignified symbols of strength and peace.
