Pavilions Hotels & Resorts · Mongolia

Tell us the moment.
We'll build the country around it.

Two lodges, a great deal of open steppe in between, and a small team who knows which week of which month each of these is actually possible.

How a journey is made

Most people arrive with one picture in their head. We start there.

Nothing here is packaged. You pick what you actually want to do, we tell you honestly when it's possible, and the route, the lodges and the driving days get built backwards from that.

Choose your moments

The season band on each one shows when it's genuinely available, not just when we'd sell it to you. Pick the experiences that matter.

We draft the route

A written itinerary within three working days: nights, distances, road conditions and a clear price. No surprises.

You travel with our people

Our guides, our lodges where the route allows, and one number to call in-country. You're never alone out there.

Moments

The reason people come. Everything else is logistics.

Altai · Bayan-Ölgii

Hunt with an eagle

Ride out with a Kazakh berkutchi and a golden eagle he has hunted with for years. In the cold months you follow an actual hunt across the ridges; in summer you sit with the family and the bird.

HUNTING OCT–MAR · VISITS YEAR-ROUND
Orkhon Valley

Ride out across the Orkhon

Mongolian horses, a local herder alongside, and a valley with nothing to ride around. From an hour before dinner to a full day over the passes.

MAY – OCTOBER
Khangai · Orkhon

Move with a herding family

A working day, not a demonstration. Milking at dawn, moving the herd, making aaruul on the ger roof, and lunch inside with the family that lives there.

JUNE – SEPTEMBER
All regions

Cook khorkhog over hot stones

River stones in the fire, lamb and root vegetables sealed in a milk churn, buuz folded at the table beforehand. Two hours of doing, then everyone eats outside.

YEAR-ROUND
Khentii · Khövsgöl

Sit with a shaman

Arranged privately, never staged, and only with practitioners who have agreed to receive visitors. You'll be briefed properly on what is and isn't appropriate before you go.

APRIL – OCTOBER
South Gobi · Elsen Tasarkhai

Camel on the dunes

Bactrian camels with the herding family that keeps them, out onto Khongoryn Els or the sand at Elsen Tasarkhai for the hour before the light goes.

APRIL – OCTOBER

Where you sleep

Two places of our own, six hundred kilometres apart.

The ground

Six regions. Roughly the size of Western Europe between them.

Journeys

Three routes we've run before.

14 nights

The Red Stupa & the Valley of Kings

The full traverse: the Gobi's escarpments, dunes and ice gorge, then north into the green half of the country, to the Valley of a Thousand Horses and the swan lake at sunset.

MAY – SEPTEMBER · GUIDED OR SELF-DRIVE
Self-drive 4x4 route through the Orkhon Valley, central Mongolia
14 nights

The Khan's Valley & Taimen Rivers

Fourteen nights from the Gobi dunes to the rivers of the north, with two of them at the Genghis Khan Retreat.

JUNE – SEPTEMBER · SELF-DRIVE, SUPPORTED
8 nights

Winter: Eagles and the Cold Desert

The two things Mongolia does in deep winter that nowhere else does at all.

JANUARY – MARCH · FULLY GUIDED

We answer these ourselves — no booking engine, no call centre. A written reply usually within one working day.

Good to know

It depends on the moment you want — summer (June–August) for riding and the herding camps, autumn for the golden steppe, and January–March for eagle hunters and the winter Gobi. Tell us the month and we'll say honestly whether it fits.

Both lodges are small and private by design, and every journey is arranged around your own group rather than joined with strangers — solo travellers, couples, and families all come through us.

Lodging, guiding, meals, and ground transport within Mongolia are always included. International flights, visas, and travel insurance aren't — we'll set out exactly what's covered once we know your route.

Visa requirements depend on your passport — many nationalities can enter visa-free for short stays. No vaccinations are mandatory, though routine travel jabs are worth checking with your GP. We'll confirm specifics for your nationality when we reply.

Usually within one working day, direct from us in Ulaanbaatar — no ticketing system, no call centre in between.
